Monet- term 3 artist study

There is so much to feast your eyes on when studying Monet. I loved his spirit as he paved the path to Impressionism. Thanks to him, we can enjoy a great period in art.
Finding a good sight to help me learn more about his paintings was a challenge, but I did find one that was helpful to me. You can find it here.
The last month, we have studied these four paintings:

Laura tried her hand in copying Monet's painting:

I will sing of my Redeemer by Phillip Bliss

I will sing of my Redeemer,
And His wondrous love to me;
On the cruel cross He suffered,
From the curse to set me free.

Sing, oh sing, of my Redeemer,
With His blood, He purchased me.
On the cross, He sealed my pardon,
Paid the debt, and made me free.

I will tell the wondrous story,
How my lost estate to save,
In His boundless love and mercy,
He the ransom freely gave.

I will praise my dear Redeemer,
His triumphant power I’ll tell,
How the victory He give
Over sin, and death, and hell.

I will sing of my Redeemer,
And His heav’nly love to me;
He from death to life hath brought me,
Son of God with Him to be.

Written by Phillip Bliss
This hymn was found in Mr. Bliss' belongings after a tragic train wreck which took his and his wife's life. He apparently survived the initial wreck, but when he went in to rescue his wife, he and his wife were killed. The night before the accident, he told his audience, " I may not pass this way again." and then he sang a solo, “I’m Going Home Tomorrow.”

Sometimes God does prepare us, doesn't he?

Farewell to Nova Scotia- folksong

I like the video of Nova Scotia- but it definitely is not the best sounding version of this song. I'll post a better sounding (but a video without any pictures) so at least we can listen to something more pleasant ;)

Lady Agnew of Locknaw- Friday Art

This is such a beautiful portrait. The story behind it makes it even more fascinating. Read here.
Notice how the symmetry of her face makes the picture look so much more enchanting- if you try covering up half of her face with a piece of paper, what do you see? Now, try the other side, what does her expression say? If you read more about her you might come up with your own idea.
Laura thought one side of her face said she was trying to be still but not wanting to, and the other side of her face said she wanted to laugh but couldn't.
What do you think?

Alas! And did my Savior bleed- March hymn

I was moved to tears listening to this song- and trying to read the words to my kids was next to impossible- but we got through it and will spend this month learning this hymns with humble hearts.

Alas and did my Savior bleed
And did my Sovereign die
Would He devote that sacred head
For such a worm as I
Was it for sins that I had done
He groaned upon the tree
Amazing pity, grace unknown
And love beyond degree

My God why would
You shed Your blood
So pure and undefiled
To make a sinful one like me
Your chosen precious child

Well might the sun in darkness hide
And shut His glories in
When Christ the mighty Maker died
For man the creature’s sin
Thus might I hide my blushing face
While His dear Cross appears
Dissolve my heart in thankfulness
And melt my eyes to tears
