Four Birds

As my AO -year 1 daughter and I are reading about Birds in the Burgess Bird Book, we have been looking up their pictures online as well as listening to their bird calls. Because I am behind in posting, I want to cram four birds into today's post so we don't lose track...ready?

Jenny Wren- or the House Wren

Listen to its sound Here
Behavior:Bubbly and energetic, just like their songs. Look for House Wrens hopping quickly through tangles and low branches and, in spring and summer, frequently pausing to deliver cheerful trilling songs.

Orchard Bully-House Sparrow

Listen to it's sound Here:

Behavior:House Sparrows are noisy sparrows that flutter down from eaves and fence rows to hop and peck at crumbs or birdseed. Look for them flying in and out of nest holes hidden behind shop signs or in traffic lights, or hanging around parking lots waiting for crumbs and picking insects off car grills.

Glory the Cardinal

Listen to its sound HERE

We thought it said "pretty,pretty,pretty"

Behavior: Cardinals tend to sit low in shrubs and trees or forage on or near the ground, often in pairs. They are common at bird feeders but may be inconspicuous away from them, at least until you learn their loud, metallic chip note.

Kitty the Catbird

Listen to it's sound HERE

Behavior: Catbirds are secretive but energetic, hopping and fluttering from branch to branch through tangles of vegetation. Singing males sit atop shrubs and small trees. Catbirds are reluctant to fly across open areas, preferring quick, low flights over vegetation.

Happy Birdwatching!
