By John Singer Sargent, painted in 1882
1.What was Mr. Sargent feeling when he painted this?
Laura: I'm not sure, but If I wanted to paint this, I would want to paint the way the colors blend together and show the lighting.
Audrey: That he thought the girls were pretty.
2.What is the expression on the girls faces?
L: The youngest is wondering at you. The middle one looks like she is surprised and wondering- she looks friendly. The oldest looks like she is taking a break and relaxing, the third one is my favorite- there is something about her like she is different from the rest. Her face looks like she has more to say, and has more questions and more interesting than her sisters- she seems inquisitive- she looks like she is studying you through time.
A: They look pretty (hmmmm.... is there a recurring theme here?)
3.Out of all the girls which one would you like to know?
L: The middle girl in the background, looking at you and the one I like- in the red dress. "Why?" They seem very kind and like a good friend.
A: The one in the red dress. I would play dolls with her.
